Welcome to the second step in our chakra journey! After exploring the foundation of the Root Chakra, we now move upward to discover the vibrant energy of the Sacral Chakra. As your guide at Circle Yoga, I'm excited to share how this powerful energy centre can transform your creativity, emotional wellbeing, and zest for life.
The Sacral Chakra, known in Sanskrit as "Svadhisthana," is your centre of creativity, pleasure, and emotional flow. Located just below your navel in the lower abdomen, this beautiful orange energy centre is associated with the element of water – fluid, flowing, and ever-changing.
Svadhisthana translates to "the place of the self" or "one's own dwelling place," highlighting its connection to your personal identity and emotional landscape. When this chakra flows freely, you experience life with passion, joy, and creative abundance.
When your Sacral Chakra is harmoniously balanced, you'll likely experience:
A natural surge of creativity and inspiration in all areas of life
Emotional harmony and resilience, even during challenging times
The ability to connect deeply with yourself and others
A joyful, passionate outlook on life
Healthy relationship with pleasure and sensuality
Adaptability and grace when facing change
Just as water can stagnate or overflow its banks, the Sacral Chakra can become blocked or overactive. In my yoga practice, I've observed these common signs of Sacral Chakra disruption:
Creative blocks or a persistent lack of inspiration
Emotional numbness or, conversely, emotional volatility
Difficulty enjoying life's pleasures
Fear of change or inability to adapt to new circumstances
Challenges in intimate relationships
Low energy or motivation for creative pursuits
My yoga classes incorporate specific poses and techniques designed to stimulate and balance Svadhisthana energy. These flowing movements mimic water's graceful nature, helping to dissolve blockages and restore your natural creativity.
Flowing Yoga Poses
Cat-Cow Flow (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana) - Creates a gentle, wavelike motion in the spine that massages the sacral region
Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) - Opens the hips where we often store emotional tension
Goddess Pose (Utkata Konasana) - Activates the pelvic region and builds creative power
Hip Circles - Frees stagnant energy with fluid, circular movements
Seated Pelvic Tilts - Gently awakens sacral energy with subtle, rhythmic motion
Practice "Ocean Breath" (Ujjayi Pranayama) while visualising a warm, orange glow expanding through your lower abdomen. This powerful breathing technique helps energy move freely through the Sacral Chakra, enhancing emotional flow and creative inspiration.
Cultivate your Sacral Chakra energy throughout the day with these simple yet effective practices:
Water is the element associated with the Sacral Chakra. Take a mindful bath or shower, visit a natural body of water, or simply drink more water with intention. As you connect with water, visualise it washing away emotional blockages and replenishing your creative energy.
Incorporate orange-coloured foods like mangoes, oranges, carrots, and sweet potatoes into your diet. These vibrant foods resonate with the orange energy of the Sacral Chakra, helping to stimulate its natural flow.
Repeat these powerful affirmations during meditation or throughout your day:
"I embrace my creativity and express it freely"
"My emotions flow naturally and healthily"
"I am passionate about life and open to joy"
"I welcome change and adapt with grace"
By nurturing your Sacral Chakra, you unlock a wellspring of creativity, emotional harmony, and joyful living. This beautiful energy centre reminds us that, like water, we are meant to flow, adapt, and reflect the beauty around us.
In my yoga classes, I guide students through gentle sequences that incorporate many of these principles. These practices help dissolve creative blocks and emotional stagnation, restoring your natural state of inspiration and joy.

Remember, as I often share in my classes: "Like water, we are meant to flow freely, nourishing everything we touch."
With love, light, and creative joy,
Elizabeth
